A gyrfalcon is the biggest hawk. Like all the hawks, it flies fast. Its wings are so strong that it can fly up very high and then plunge fast down for its prey. It hunts on various birds and easily reaches them in the air.

The gyrfalcon lives in Arctic regions. These are Northern areas where only strong birds can survive and find easily food at any time.

The gyrfalcon is a fine bird. It has beautiful white feathers. In spring, the gyrfalcon male and female fly up in the sky with loud screams and then fall down showing how they can fly. A gyrfalcon family lives in the same nest for many years. The gyrfalcon mother lays several eggs and sits on them while the gyrfalcon father brings her food. After the fledglings grow a little, the gyrfalcon mother starts to leave the nest for a while too in search of food.
