Musk-ox

A musk-ox lives in the tundra. In winter, it is very cold there, and the ground is covered with a thick layer of snow. The musk-ox is not afraid of the most rigorous cold. The musk-ox hair is thick and very long, in winter it grows down to touch the ground. Its horns are crooked and thick, its big hoofs have sharp edges. That is why the musk-oxen do not slip on the ice and can get up fast to steep stony slopes.

In winter, the musk-oxen feed on moss and dry grass that they pick up from under deep snow with the help of their strong fore hoofs.

If a herd of musk-oxen is attacked by wolves, the adult fathers stand on in a circle surrounding the females with their calves. Putting out their horns, the fathers do not let predators approach the calves.
