The fox and the geese (Brothers Grimm)

Once a fox was walking through a meadow, and in the meadow sat a whole herd of good, fat geese. The fox saw the herd of geese and rejoiced.

- That's what it means to be on time! - she said to the geese. - You are so comfortably seated that all I have to do is to eat you all, one by one.

The geese were frightened. They jumped up, flapped their wings, cackled pitifully, begged the fox for mercy.

But the fox wouldn't listen:

- No, no, don't shout in vain! I'll eat you anyway.

Then one of the geese plucked up courage and said:

- "Since we unfortunate ones have to die, let us sing one last song before we die. And when we sing the song, we'll all sit in a row again, so that it will be more convenient for you to choose the fattest of us.

- Well, it's not much to ask. Sing, I'll wait, - agreed the fox. So the first goose started:

- "Ga-ga-ga!

The second one didn't wait for him to finish and started to pull him up:

- Ga-ga-ga! Ga-ga-ga!

And after him the third goose, and the fourth.... And finally, all the other geese went "ga-ga-ga-ga".

And so they're still cackling. And the fox is still waiting. We'll have to wait too. When the geese finish their song, then we'll know how the tale ends.
