Arnhold's mouse lemur or the Montagne d'Ambre mouse lemur (Microcebus arnholdi)
Appearance
Arnhold's mouse lemur or the Montagne d'Ambre mouse lemur (Microcebus arnholdi) is a species of lemur in the genus Microcebus. Microcebus arnholdi) of medium size, reaching a head and body length of 8.1 cm and a tail length of 12.9 cm; average weight of 49.7 g. The dorsal coat is a mixture of dark brown, reddish and grey, the tail has a dark brown central stripe starting at the base, dark brown at the end. Abdomen white to cream with a greyish tinge. The head is reddish brown, the nose and the area around the eyes are dark brown. A white stripe extends from the naked nose to the pit between the eyes.
Distribution
Known range is a small area of Madagascar north-west of the Irudu River. Possibly found in the Ambre Mountain National Park. The estimated area of distribution is less than 160 km2.
Conservation status
The IUCN has given the species a protected status of Near Threatened. The main threats to the species are habitat destruction for agriculture and hunting.
