Appearance
The Bongolava mouse lemur (Microcebus bongolavensis) is a primate (a species of mouse lemur). It reaches a body length of 12-13 cm and a tail length of 15-17 cm. The weight is 45-63 grams. The short, dense fur is mostly reddish-brown, the belly is whitish and some animals have a grey top of the head. There is a bright white stripe between the large eyes.
Distribution
It inhabits dense primary forests in the mountainous areas of northern Madagascar, between the Sufia and Mahajamba rivers.
Conservation status
The species was granted Near Threatened status by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in 2008. The species is threatened by deforestation and hunting. It is not kept in captivity.
