The Ankarana sportive lemur (Lepilemur ankaranensis), or Ankarana weasel lemur, is a sportive lemur endemic to Madagascar.
Description
Lepilemur ankaranensis is a species of mammal in the slender-bodied lemur family (Lepilemuridae).
It is one of the smallest of the lepilemurs, with a total length of about 53 cm, including a 25 cm tail. The average adult weight is about 750 grams.
Distribution
The species is distributed in northern Madagascar, in the forest reserves of Ankanara, Andrafiamena and Analamerana, at altitudes up to 1500 m above sea level. In the province of Adrafiamena, Lepilemur milanoii is sympatric. The total area of the range is 1880 km2.
Lepilemur ankaranensis on the Red List
The International Union for Conservation of Nature has given the species the status of "endangered". The species is hunted for its meat and suffers from habitat destruction for agriculture.
