The betsileo sportive lemur (Lepilemur betsileo) is a sportive lemur endemic to Madagascar.
Description and distribution
The Betsileo sportive lemur (Lepilemur betsileo) is a species of lemur in the genus Lepilemur of the family Lepilemuridae, named after the Malagasy Betsileu (Betsileo).
The coat is grey to reddish-brown and the tail is black. Length up to 58 cm, of which 33 cm is the long tail. It weighs about 1 kg.
It is found between the Mangoro and Namorona rivers in eastern Madagascar, and lives in primary and secondary forests.
Lifestyle and nutrition
Nocturnal lifestyle. Its diet is presumably composed of leaves, fruits, flowers, buds and other plant parts, like that of all lemurs.
Conservation status
These lemurs are listed as "endangered" on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, due to the destruction of the tropical forests in which they live.
