James' sportive lemur (Lepilemur jamesorum), or the Manombo sportive lemur, is a sportive lemur endemic to Madagascar.
Description
Lepilemur jamesorum is a species of primate mammal in the family Lepilemuridae. One of the largest of the lepilemur species. It is between 60 and 67 cm long, of which the tail is between 28 and 32 cm. The average weight is 0.78 kg. The coat is predominantly brown. On the muzzle there is a white marking along the jaw and throat from the chin to the ears. On the spine there is a black stripe running along the whole body. Small cream-coloured spots behind the ears. Abdomen and thorax lighter than the back. Tail darker towards the end. The coat is shorter than that of the related species Lepilemur fleuretae and Lepilemur betsileo.
Distribution
Known from specimens from the Manumbu region of south-eastern Madagascar. Exact northern and southern range limits unknown, possibly distributed south of the Manampatrana River and north of the Mananara River.
