Neumann's grass rat (Arvicanthis neumanni)
Description
Neumann's grass rat (Arvicanthis neumanni) is a species of rodent in the family Muridae.
It includes 7 species of herbivorous mice that live in Africa and are diurnal:
- Arvicanthis abyssinicus Rüppell, 1842 - Abyssinian grass mouse;
- Arvicanthis ansorgei Thomas, 1910 - Sudan grass mouse;
- Arvicanthis blicki Frick, 1914 - Ethiopian Grass Mouse;
- Arvicanthis nairobae J. A. Allen, 1909 - Kenyan Grass Mouse;
- Arvicanthis neumanni Matschie, 1894 - Newman's Grass Mouse;
- Arvicanthis niloticus É. Geoffroy, 1803 - Grass mouse;
- Arvicanthis rufinus Temminck, 1853 - Guinea grass mouse.
Neumann's grass rat (Arvicanthis neumanni) has a disjointed range, the former including Somalia, Efipia and Sudan, the latter northern Tanzania and possibly Kenya. This rodent is found in dry savannahs as well as thickets of thorny shrubs in tropical and subtropical zones.
