The Barbary striped grass mouse (Lemniscomys barbarus)
The Barbary striped grass mouse (Lemniscomys barbarus) is a small rodent of the mouse subfamily native to Africa.
Body length is 8 to 12 cm, tail length is about the same. Weight from 30 to 40 grams. In nature, they rarely live longer than six months. In captivity live up to 3 years. Active in the twilight and night time. Males become sexually mature at the age of 10 weeks, females - after 5-6 months. The duration of pregnancy is 21 days. One litter has an average of 5 cubs.
The Barbary striped grass mouse is a Mediterranean endemic species. Countries of residence: Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia. It lives from sea level to at least 1000 metres above sea level. Inhabits Mediterranean shrublands and forests as well as arable land.
