Green Acouchi видео

The green acouchi (Myoprocta pratti) is a species of rodent in the acouchi genus, part of the family Dasyproctidae. It is found in western Amazonia, west of the Rios Negro and Madeira, in northwestern Brazil, northeastern Peru, eastern Ecuador, southeastern Colombia, and southern Venezuela. There is substantial variation within this range, and the Green Acouchi, as currently recognized, may contain more than one species. Because the application of the scientific name acouchy, currently in use for the Red Acouchi, has historically been disputed, the name Myoprocta acouchy has sometimes been used for this species instead of Myoprocta pratti. The species is named for Antwerp Edgar Pratt who was a British naturalist.

Myoprocta pratti is a small rodent weighing 800 to 1,300 grams and with a total body length of 34 to 44 centimetres. The species Latin name was given in honour of Antwerp Edgar Pratt (1852-1924), English explorer and naturalist, corresponding member of the Royal Geographical Society.

The species is distributed in Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela. It inhabits lowland evergreen rainforests. May inhabit modified areas close to natural forests. It is hunted throughout its range. Some indigenous peoples of Brazil probably kept as a pet.

They are diurnal, most active in the morning from 6 to 9 am and in the evening from 4 to 6 pm. Very flexible and react quickly to any movement or sound.

Males are dominant and become aggressive towards other young males, especially during the mating season. Pregnancy lasts 99 to 100 days. There are 2 to 4 cubs in a litter. The lactation period lasts 5 months. After 6-10 months young animals leave their mother. At the age of 1 year they become sexually mature. Life expectancy can be up to 10 years.
