Cirrhilabrus rubripinnis is distributed in the tropical Indo-Pacific, the Red Sea, Indonesia, the Philippines and the Great Barrier Reef. Cirrhilabrus rubripinnis feeds on plankton, hovering in the water column near coral reefs, depths up to 30 metres. Cirrhilabrus rubripinnis is recognisable by its bright red fins (reflected in the name of the species). It occurs in small flocks of 5-6 to 20 individuals. Filipinos have an omen - if Cirrhilabrus rubripinnis start playing their weddings, there will soon be a strong current. During "weddings" they gather in flocks, males constantly "flash", instantly spreading their brightly coloured fins.
