Horses are large but kind animals that have been around humans for many, many years. They have helped people in their work and now they are often our friends.

A long time ago, horses lived very different lives from the ones we see now. Over time, horses became faster runners and better at eating grass. Their legs got longer and their extra toes disappeared.

Now horses have long, beautiful legs and stand on one big toe, which we call a hoof.

Have you ever seen a small pony or a huge trotting horse? There are many different breeds of horses and each one is special!

What horses love to do

Horses love to graze in green meadows and run in fields. They can also race or just ride children on their backs.

Horses have special teeth: they are similar to those of rabbits because they grow their whole life. This helps them chew grass well.

How horses "talk"

Horses have their own language! They express their feelings by snorting or moving their ears and tail. If a horse has its ears up, it may mean that it hears or sees something interesting.

Caring for your horse

Caring for a horse is a big responsibility. They need lots of food, water, and care. Horses need to be brushed regularly and also have their health checked by a vet.

Horses are not only beautiful, but also very intelligent animals that can become real friends for every child!
