The Virginia quail (or northern bobwhite) Colinus virginianus
The northern bobwhite is distributed through the eastern part of North America. It inhabits forest and shrub habitats, as well as agricultural lands. Outside of the breeding season, bobwhites live in small flocks. The female lays 8 to 19 eggs in the nest on the ground and incubates the eggs for about three weeks. The diet of these birds consists primarily of seeds but also includes green leafy material, fruits, berries, and invertebrates.
