The king quail or painted quail Coturnix chinensis
Painted quail видео
This quail is only 13 to 14 cm long, and it weighs 45 to 70 g, which makes it the smallest bird of the Galiformes order. In the wild, painted quail range from south-eastern Asia to Oceania, inhabiting moist regions such as those in wetlands of rank grass. Females nest on the ground in hollows that are lined with grass. They lay 4 to 10 eggs (sometimes up to 14). Incubation lasts 16 or 17 days. Tiny chicks have a size of a bumblebee, but they leave their nest shortly after hatching. The chicks grow fast and become mature by 14 to 18 weeks of age.
