The mhorr gazelle Gazella dama mhorr
The mhorr gazelle is one of the subspecies of Gazella dama. This gazelle used to have an isolated range. Once the mhorr gazelles were distributed through the northeast of Africa, from Morocco to Senegal but they had become extinct in the wild and currently live only in Moroccan National Park Susse Massa and in zoos. Reintroduction programs for these animals have been developed and are implemented. The mhorr gazelle differs from other subspecies by its darker coat colour. The back of the mhorr gazelle is dark brown or dark red, with the coloration changing depending on the season and animal age. Head is usually lighter in colour than the body, with white patches around the eyes and on the muzzle; the neck also has a white patch; dark stripes run from the base of the horns to the corners of the mouth; undersides and rump are white, and the tail is white too and has a small tuft.
